“Basso” is a shelf system produced by Eternit and created by the Austrian designer Thomas Feichtner. Eternit, founded in 1894, is one of the most richly traditional Austrian companies. Since its readjustment on an asbestos-free technology at the end of the 1980s the fibre cement of Eternit is one of the most environment friendly and sustainable materials. It has excellent performance of weathering resistance, little weight and rigidity. In the course of Eternit´s history it has produced fibrous cement furniture conceived by renowned designers and architects such as Le Corbusier, Willy Guhl or lately Nicolas Le Moigne and Rainer Mutsch. The recent cooperation is the project “Basso” with Thomas Feichtner. His design is a modular shelf system consisting of three different basic elements. Stacked one upon or next the other these cubes are fixed with simple round pegs. “Basso” works inside as well as outside and could be used for books or ring binders or as a shelf for wine bottles or firewood. It is a very simple but nevertheless a well-thought-out piece of furniture. The name “Basso” is an allusion to the beginning of the joint cooperation, the legendary “Bar Basso” in Milan.
